The entire iPhone 17 lineup could feature 120Hz refresh rate displays

Date:

Apple started introducing the Pro Motion displays with the iPhone 13 Pro line-up in 2021. Since then we have seen the Pro & Pro Max variants sporting a higher refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Lately, this bifurcation has been under scrutiny considering the base variant of the iPhone – the 16 currently starts at a price of Rs 70,900. A major point of the contest is how we can find a higher refresh rate on an Android device starting as low as Rs 20,000. But if leaks and rumors are to be believed Apple might change this with the iPhone 17, according to a leak from Digital Chat Station on Weibo, as spotted by MacRumors. The leak comes from a source with a solid track record, having previously revealed accurate details about the iPhone 15’s camera sensors and the iPhone 12’s display panel.

The leak, while vague, suggests the base iPhone 17 will feature a high-refresh-rate display, aligning with previous reports. MacRumors pointed to a February rumor that Apple plans to use LTPO panel technology (from the iPhone 16 Pro’s ProMotion) across all iPhone 17 models, a claim later backed by expert Ross Young in September.

No More Plus iPhone? It might be replaced with a ‘“Slim”

The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to replace the “Plus” model with a “Slim” version, likely featuring ProMotion. Apple may differentiate models by features like a smaller Face ID sensor and Dynamic Island on the Pro Max, plus 12GB of RAM for the Pro models and 8GB for the Slim and standard versions. The entire lineup is expected to get a 24MP front camera, up from 12MP, and Apple’s custom Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips.
We will see what happens come September, however, there is one more iPhone that Apple might launch soon as March 2025.
