The best upcoming smartwatches in 2025: find your next wearable

Date:

As time keeps ticking, a fresh wave of exciting upcoming smartwatches is on the horizon, promising a host of new features and impressive design upgrades. Major players like Google, Apple, Samsung, and Fitbit are gearing up to unveil their latest wearable tech in the coming months, each one packed with advancements that could change the way we interact with our devices and manage our daily lives.

With each new smartwatch model, there’s an expectation of not only improved functionality but also thoughtful design and innovative features. Fitness enthusiasts, for instance, will be thrilled by the ever-growing suite of health and activity tracking capabilities, which might even include more advanced heart rate monitoring, ECG, and sleep analysis. For those who want productivity on the go, the latest smartwatches may include more efficient, seamless integration with smartphones and other devices, allowing easy access to messages, calls, and apps.

From vibrant, customisable displays to longer battery life and improved waterproofing, these upcoming wearables promise to offer something for everyone. Below, we’ve rounded up all the smartwatches likely to debut soon, giving you a sneak peek at what’s to come in the ever-evolving world of wearable tech.

Apple Watch Series 11

  • Expected release date: September 2025
  • Rumoured new features: MicroLED display, blood pressure monitoring, magnetic straps

The Apple Watch Series 11 will undoubtedly be the most anticipated smartwatch on this list, and while specifics are scarce, speculation is rampant as Apple continues to push the limits of wearable tech. Following on from the Series 10 – a groundbreaking model that celebrated the Apple Watch’s 10th anniversary – the Series 11 will likely be a smaller update, with refined features and a few software updates.

It was rumoured the Series 10 would come with design changes, an even slimmer build, possibly enhancing durability with a refined strap attachment mechanism. Some sources suggested that the magnetic strap attachment system Apple tested in previous models could make its debut with Series 11, allowing users to swap out bands with ease, but that meant backward compatibility with older straps was be sacrificed. Those changes didn’t arrive with the Series 10, could we see them arrive with the Series 11?

We may also see Apple edge closer to advanced health monitoring features. While we likely won’t get revolutionary tech like blood glucose monitoring just yet, there’s chatter about enhancements in blood pressure monitoring. Adding to the excitement, some believe Series 11 could include the long-awaited MicroLED display, although there are reports this has been cancelled.

The Apple Watch Series 11 is not expected until September 2025. Can’t wait that long? The Apple Watch Series 10 is a fantastic all-rounder, and it’s available right now:

Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra review bespoke watch face
  • Expected release date: June 2025
  • Rumoured new features: Square design, blood glucose monitoring, new health sensors

With the recent release of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7, many are already wondering what’s next – and whether it’s worth holding out for the Galaxy Watch 8. The Galaxy Watch 7 arrived with a faster Exynos chip, more storage, upgraded heart rate LEDs, and dual-band GPS. However, its design and core features remain strikingly similar to the Galaxy Watch 6, leaving some fans hoping for a more substantial upgrade in the next model.

Early rumours suggest that the Galaxy Watch 8 could finally deliver features that didn’t make the cut for the Watch 7, including a possible “squircle” design. This design – essentially a rounded square – would mark a shift from Samsung’s iconic circular watches and give the Galaxy Watch lineup a more Apple Watch-like aesthetic. Though controversial, this new shape could enhance screen real estate and usability.

On the health front, Samsung has been exploring new tracking technologies. Hon Pak, Samsung’s digital healthcare VP, has hinted at potentially groundbreaking features like blood glucose monitoring, although it may be a few years away. In the meantime, Samsung’s latest Biosensor now tracks Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs), a promising indicator for health conditions like diabetes.

While it’s still early days for Galaxy Watch 8 rumours, Samsung seems poised to innovate both in design and health-tracking tech. In the meantime, check out the best Galaxy Watch 7 prices:

Google Pixel Watch 4

Google Pixel Watch 2 review verdict
  • Expected release date: October 2025
  • Rumoured new features: Touchscreen bezel, Fit Score, increased battery life, new processor

Rumours are already swirling about what the Google Pixel Watch 4 could bring in 2025. Leaks hint at an innovative touch-sensitive bezel that would let users control the watch with taps and squeezes along the edge.

Additionally, a “Fit Score” feature could offer more accurate health data by ensuring the watch is worn snugly, factoring in skin tone, BMI, and other unique qualities. Health tracking could also level up, with the potential for continuous metrics like those found on Samsung’s latest, alerting users to health risks such as heart disease.

Battery life is another expected upgrade. The Pixel Watch 3 lasts 24–36 hours, but with an efficient new chip—possibly a next-gen Snapdragon or even Google’s own Tensor—the Watch 4 could stretch that limit. Runners might also enjoy improved dual-band GPS accuracy, an essential feature that was notably absent from the Pixel Watch 3.

Lastly, there’s speculation about a “Pixel Watch Ultra” following Samsung’s lead with a rugged, long-lasting design. Though the Pixel Watch 3 is impressive for now, the Pixel Watch 4 is poised to offer real advancements for Google’s smartwatch line-up.

Can’t wait until 2025? The Pixel Watch 3 is already a fantastic option for those who want Google’s latest smartwatch:

Apple Watch Ultra 3

  • Expected release date: September 2025
  • Rumoured new features: MicroLED display, software updates

The Apple Watch Ultra 3, originally anticipated to debut at Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event alongside the iPhone 16, was notably absent. Its launch is now rumoured for September 2025, suggesting Apple may be taking additional time to refine the model. While a highly anticipated microLED display was initially expected, Apple paused its microLED plans in 2024, meaning the Ultra 3 may instead feature a more energy-efficient OLED display for better battery life.

Design-wise, the Ultra 3 is still expected to retain its sturdy 49mm titanium case, with whispers of a sleek dark colour option inspired by Apple’s historic Space Black titanium finish. Health-tracking features like blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection remain on the radar but face technical and legal hurdles in the U.S., potentially delaying their availability.

Hardware upgrades will likely be modest, with a next-gen chip succeeding the S9 that could bring AI-powered optimisations in health insights. Major new sensors are unlikely, indicating that Apple’s focus may be on enhancing software-driven health capabilities and user experience.

Fitbit Charge 7

  • Expected release date: September 2025
  • Rumoured new features: New health tracking sensors, Google Assistant and Google Wallet

Google might be all in on the Pixel Watch, but it hasn’t forgotten its fitness-focused sub-brand. The Fitbit Charge 7 is expected to retain the popular curved fitness tracker design of its predecessor, for those who aren’t into classic watch shapes, and is rumoured to come in three colours — classic black, chic beige, and energetic orange.

One of the more exciting rumoured features is its continuous cEDA sensors, which will reportedly provide automatic blood pressure and health monitoring throughout the day. We’re also rather excited at the prospect of Google Assistant and Google Wallet compatibility, adding an extra layer of functionality on top of the usual health and fitness tracking features.

Apple Watch SE 3

  • Expected release date: September 2025
  • Rumoured new features: Updated design, plastic, upgraded processor and health-tracking

Given that the second-generation Apple Watch SE was released in 2022, it’s not too crazy to imagine Apple releasing a refreshed version of its more affordable timepiece in 2025. Rumours so far point to a similar design/size as the current Apple Watch SE, although it’s likely to be a little larger, given that its design is rumoured to be based off of the Watch Series 8.

It’s also likely that the Watch SE 3 will have upgraded silicon in the form of the same S9 processor found in the Watch Series 9. Given its more budget-friendly nature, we expect a few compromises to be made in the health tracking department, so don’t expect to see fancy features like SPO2 and body temperature sensors.

We’re crossing our fingers for an upgrade to an ECG sensor though, as that first made its debut all the way back on the Apple Watch Series 4.
