Apple CEO Tim Cook teases the new MacBook Air. What we know so far

Date:

In a new post on social media today, Tim Cook announced that Apple has a new product launch coming this week. The short teaser video posted on X reads: “There’s something in the Air.” This strongly suggests that Apple will unveil a new MacBook Air. The upcoming model is expected to feature the M4 chip and will retain the familiar 13-inch and 15-inch designs of its predecessor.

The M4 chip is set to bring significant upgrades for MacBook Air users. While the current model supports up to 24GB of RAM, the new version is likely to increase that limit to 32GB. Additionally, users can expect improved memory bandwidth, two extra CPU cores, and a 12MP Center Stage camera.

While the M3 MacBook Air can power two external monitors only when the lid is closed, the M4 model will allow users to run two external displays alongside the built-in screen—similar to the base model M4 MacBook Pro.Apple is also expected to announce a new iPad Air this spring. There is also an interesting easter egg/ call back here. If the “there’s something in the air” teaser sounds familiar, that’s because Apple used the same tagline when it launched the first-ever MacBook Air in 2008.
